Tee Pee Cake

This cake was made for a Native American Festival held at UVU. A student from UVU, Necia Stuart, helped to decorate this cake, and originally it was to be for a cake walk, but when organizers saw it, they put it in a silent auction instead.

Cake is covered with fondant, with buttercream underneath.

Decorations are both cut out fondant pieces and painted on with luster and pearl dusts. They are representative of some of the different tribes that have inhabited Utah.

Melissa & Scott's Fairy Tale Castle

Melissa and Scott had previously eloped much to the dismay of family and friends, so they agreed to have a small renewal type cermony with a BIG reception!!!! Melissa's dream of a fairy tale wedding began with lovely shades of pink adorning a castle wedding cake fit for a princess bride and her handsome knight in shing armor groom.

The cake had a 16" 2-layer base of luscious chocolate fudge cake, filled with silky smooth Bavarian Creme. The castle entrance is on the 2-layer, 12" hexagonal scrumptuous spice cake with cream cheese filling. At each cormer of the hexagon is a romantic tower, trellised with delicate and lovely flowers in shades of pink and white. Flowers also border each layer and grace the windows and the spired entrance arch.

The pinnacle towers sit atop a 2-layer, 6", gluten free cake (especially for the groom) and filled with raspberry filling.

Additionally, Melissa requested 250 cupcakes in the flavors of chocolate fudge, spice, white and yellow for her kingdom's guests to enjoy. All were topped with fluffy swirls of the same white buttercream icing as the castle cake and tiny pink and white flowers (seen at bottom left of last photo.)

All in all the kingdom greatly enjoyed this spectacular cake and Melissa and Scott were delighted with this bit of "Happily Ever After!"

Megan & Chris--Strawberries in Blue

Three tiers of white cake with different fillings in the tiers (strawberry in the top and bottom, chocolate Bavarian Cream in the middle), covered in buttercream and white chocolate marshmallow fondant.

Megan and Chris chose Navy blue, light blue, white and silver to adorn their cake as well as tasty in-season strawberries and quaint strawberry plant blossoms and leaves made from sugar paste.

The top has a towering tree of strawberries, graced with strawberry leaves and strawberry blossoms made from sugar paste.

The middle tier was separated from the top with 9" crystal-look pillars and had an arrangement of strawberries, sugar paste leaves and blossoms, and a cute little motorcycle (which the bride really wants) tucked in amongst them.

On the fondant, we put a fondant ribbon border, and painted on designs with luster dusts in Moonstone silver, Sapphire Blue, and Silver.

The bride, groom, parents, and other family members were thrilled with the cake both in appearance and taste.

David's and Amber's Spring Wedding Festival

Although Spring had been a bit delayed this year, with snow falling just last week, this beautiful festive wedding cake makes any dark clouds melt away and the sun shine brightly through.

The couple had beautiful bright wedding colors; varying hues of oranges and yellows; from the very darkest to the fairest pastels. They chose to do a 3 tier stacked cake; 14", 10" and 6", with flavors as varied as their colors. The largest tier was white with a strawberry filling, the middle tier was chocolate fudge with a chocolate Bavarian filling and the top tier was orange with a vanilla cream filling. All tiers were covered with white buttercream icing.

The bottom tier was accented with criss-crossed lines while the middle tier had just simple dots. The top tier was laden with cornelli lace to resemble a doily laid on the cake beneath the couple's topper of a loving young couple. Top and bottom borders on all tiers was done with a reverse shell pattern in a 3 color stripe using the varying shades of the wedding colors from top to bottom.

The cake was pretty before the final fresh flowers were added and could have easily stood just as it was.

The final fresh flowers were added to start from the rear of the cake topper and cascade in a swirling pattern down the front of the cake also going from smaller flowers in more pastel shades to larger flowers in darker shades.

Keera and Eric--Gerbera Daisies and Tiny Blue Flowers

Keera and Eric had brown and turquoise for their wedding colors and had chosen a tiered cake with little turquoise sugarpaste flowers and a brown fondant ribbon as the borders for the cakes and sugarpaste, white gerbera daisies with brown centers. Cakes were covered in white marshmallow fondant. Bottom two cakes were rice crispy cake. Other tiers were white cake with buttercream icing under the fondant.

Anniversary Cake--McKayla

McKayla didn't have a chance to get her anniversary cake on her first anniversary, so she opted to get one for her second anniversary.

While this cake top is not "exactly" like their wedding cake, it is actually better, there are roses on the top and it is done in buttercream. The roses and leaves are in buttercream. The cake is iced in buttercream as well.

The original cake had swirl, drop flowers in dark green with black centers and were placed to resemble ivy. The original cake also had red, buttercream roses.

Hayley and Cal--Western Luau

Hayley and Cal wanted a wedding cake to tie into their western luau reception.

With a square base cake and two additional paisley tiers; the flowers include royal icing, navy blue apple blossoms and gold, sugar paste daisies, with white centers. Also there are darling royal icing ladybugs.

The bottom square tier has a brown, fondant ribbon around the bottom. The middle paisley tier has a navy, fondant ribbon around the tier. The top paisley tier has a tan, fondant rope border made into a lasso, and trailing down the cake and coiling on the square tier.

There are also sugar paste leaves included in the "lei" on the top tier.

The cakes are red velvet cake, with cream cheese icing, and are covered in marshmallow fondant.

Hayley is represented by the navy blue, polka dotted flip-flops and Cal by the rustic cowboy boots. Both are edible--the flip-flops from molded white chocolate, the boots from molded sugar paste. There is even a ladybug hiding in one of the boots.

Table decorations include daisies and tulle in matching colors.

They also had a sheet cake, portioned into servings, with an apple blossom on each serving. Some of the servings had a ladybug on them as well. The leaves are buttercream, as is the brown shell border.

Brian & Jami

This cake was for a sweet couple whose colors were red and black and white. They also had a separate groom's cake shown in a separate posting.

This cake is a three tier triple chocolate fudge cake with chocolate Bavarian cream filling, whipped chocolate ganache icing on the bottom tier, regular chocolate ganache icing on the upper tiers. Covered in fondant with a black fondant ribbon and black royal icing piped scrolls. It is place on a black fondant covered board and elevated with an inverted black oval tray.

Flowers on this cake are silk at request of the bride but can be done in sugar paste.

Cake will provide 94 wedding sized servings or 77 party sized servings.

Double Birthday Score

This cake was for a weekend family birthday celebration for the parents whose birthdays were within days of each other. The Mom and Dad have always been big Scrabble players and the score pad shows Dad won this birthday with an age/score of 65!!!

Chocolate Love, Chocolate Truffles, & Chocolate Eternity

This cake was done as an entry in a

Chocolate Wedding Cake Contest at the

Fourth Annual Utah Chocolate Show

The name of this cake is derived from the theme (Chocolate Wedding Cakes=chocolate and love), one of the accents used (chocolate truffles), and the round features of the cake symbolizing Eternity.

Cake consists of three round tiers (8", 12", 16"). Truffles surround middle and top tiers. Stand between middle and top tiers is a glass bowl with chocolate on it. Inside bowl are additional truffles.

Table decor was a part of the contest. Table decor is similar in shades of the cake and include grape vine balls, curly willow branches, glittery long grass, and flowing fabrics.

This close up of the top tier helps to show the cloche topper, made of filigree chocolate in a half sphere. Under the cloche are additional truffles.

Bottom two tiers of this cake can be made from cake, for the contest, chocolate rice crispy treats were used. They were filled and iced with chocolate buttercream. Top tier was a dark chocolate red velvet cake with chocolate marscarpone filling and icing. All tiers were covered with white chocolate fondant and brushed with different luster and pearl dusts.

Base was covered in chocolate fondant and drizzled with chocolate.

Truffles included milk, dark, and white chocolate centers, with nuts, cocoa powders, or sugars to coat.

Cakes would provide 137 party servings or 180 wedding servings.

While this cake was indeed an entry in the contest, there were 21 total entries and only three awards given for all categories judged, as well as one additional Honorable Mention for flavor. All participant cakes were extremely well done and overheard comments for all cakes were very positive.

Jennifer's Butterfly Garden

This a two tier cake, white cake with raspberry filling.

Decorated with buttercream icing and sprayed blue and green with buttercream flowers and grass, this cake features wafer paper butterflies.

Butterflies are hand cut and hand "painted" with luster dust.

Princess Grace's 5th Birthday

This cake was done for a little girl turning five. She was having a princess birthday. Her favorite color is pink, but we used purple too, for contrast.

Cake was white with buttercream and raspberry filling, covered in marshmallow fondant. Decorations (stripes, pearls, bow are fondant; dots on pink quilting and writing are buttercream).

On the top of the cake are "jewels" made of hard strawberry candy, attached with buttercream.

Tiara is purchased (because birthday girl wanted to wear as opposed to eat the tiara) but could be recreated out of fondant or gumpaste and hard candy jewels.

Party cake serves 40 (6" tier, 8" tier). Similar size wedding cake serves 50.

Pirate Princess Cake for Sweet Sixteen

Cake for sweet sixteen party where the theme was Pirate Princess. Black, white and pink reigned supreme. Cake is whimsical topsy-turvy cake.

Top tier is marbled chocolate and white cake with chocolate buttercream filling and vanilla butter cream under fondant. Middle tier is white cake with vanilla buttercream filling and icing. Bottom tier is chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream filling and icing.

All three tiers are covered in vanilla marshmallow fondant with fondant decor including hand cut skulls and crossbones, flowers, stripes, dots, rope, etc. Borders are fondant as well. Bows on skulls are royal icing as is the anchor. Flowers are wafer paper and fondant/gumpaste. There are some accents with luster dust.

There were also twenty-four marbled cupcakes with buttercream icing and royal icing anchors and bows.

Also provided were giant lollipops decorated to match the theme with party guests names as well. Decorations are in royal icing.

Additional lollipops (orange one for her brother--that's why it's less girly).

Cake would provide servings as follows:
top tier--16 servings
middle tier--20-24 servings
bottom tier--36 servings
cupcakes--24 servings

Cakes are approximately six inches tall but their diameters vary as they are whimsical so they are wider at top of tier than at the bottom of the tier. So the number of servings may vary.

Wursten-Caldwell Wedding

Wedding cake for a friend, who promised me more than ten years ago I could make her wedding cake when she got married. I finally got to do it.

Three tiers of white cake with buttercream icing, tiers are six inches, nine inches and twelve inches. Cake has scrolls, dots and fleur de lies for decor.

This cake would provide 88 wedding size serving (excluding top tier--100 including top tier). If they were served as party size servings there would be 64 (without top), 76 including top.

Topper was provided by bride.

Pirate Cake

Corwyn hugged me when I delivered his cake. He even said it was better then a Pirates of the Caribbean cake he had seen at the store.

Chocolate cake with chocolate and vanilla buttercream icings, graham cracker crumb/brown sugar sand, blue piping gel water, pretzel and royal icing palm trees, graham cracker/pretzel/chocolate icing ships, royal icing skull and crossbones, fruit roll 'X', details for treasure chest are below.

Treasure chest is chocolate cake, iced in chocolate with hard candy gems in spearmint, watermelon, raspberry, cherry, and orange flavors; chocolate "gold coins" and some plastic bead lengths.

This cake would provide 72 party size servings.

Cowboy Birthday

This cake was for a sweet boy turning five. His name is Devyn. He was having a cowboy themed birthday part and his mom wanted a cute cowboy for her little boy.

A half sheet size chocolate cake with chocolate and vanilla buttercream icings. Everything is edible, even the chocolate "rocks".

Groom's Cake

Originally, this was supposed to have been the groom's cake to accompany the Dalsing-Cieslak wedding cake. However, since the couple was leaving the next day, we decided it would be better for them to come home to, so they could enjoy it.

An "Ice Cream" cake, the cake itself was chocolate fudge. Inside was creamy strawberry ice cream. Iced in whipped chocolate ganache, with a chocolate buttercream border, the most dazzling feature are the decked out strawberries.

Strawberries are dipped in white and brown chocolate to resemble little tuxedos. Their adorable buttons and bow ties are hand painted. They are ready for any formal affair.

This cake would provide 8-12 servings depending on portion size. Strawberries can be served with cake or eaten alone...

Tony B's Gibson SG Special in Emerald Green aka Electric Guitar

This cake was for a young man turning 20 who plays guitar in a band. He works with James at the Tire Shop.

Cake was a triple chocolate fudge cake with chocolate buttercream and chocolate mousse fillings. Iced and decorated in buttercream with a fondant piece painted with luster dust to give it a shiny appearance.

Baked in the shape of a guitar, this cake would likely provide 12-15 servings (or in the case of the boys at the shop, 6-8--it all depends on the size).

Bright Teen Birthday

Recent Disney smash sensation, Hannah Montana, is really big among young girls right now. This cake for a young girl was a simple white cake with buttercream icing. An 11"x15" cake, at 2" high, this would provide around 30 servings as they would need to be a little larger than trditional party-sized servings.

Bunch o' Bananas

Fun cake for an adult, from a group. This "bunch" of bananas is decorated in buttercream. The sign shown is a simple paper sign, but could be made in sugar paste (with enough notice). Dalsing-Cieslak Wedding

This cake is a 14" base, and the upper tier is 12". The cakes are marbled white and chocolate fudge. There is buttercream and raspberry filling. The icing is butter cream. The fountain has water which could be colored to match the other colors.

This is a close up of the top, an initial "C" and a blown glass figurine of the Mt. Timpanogos (American Fork) LDS Temple (where the couple was wed).

The flowers are all handmade of sugar paste. They include rosebuds, medium roses, and large roses in the raspberry pink and red shades. Some of the buds and medium roses have edges painted with luster dust. The baby's breath and leaves are also handmade from sugar paste.

This cake will serve 134 wedding size servings or 103 party size servings.

Silly Sunflower (Topsy-Turvey or Whimsical Cake)

This cake is a topsy-turvey or whimsical cake done for a competition at the Salt Lake County Fair. It is three tiers, 10", 8", and 6".

The cake layers are top and bottom German Chocolate with homemade coconut-pecan filling. Middle layer is coconut cake with creamy coconut filling. The chocolate tiers have chocolate buttercream outer and some chocolate fudge icing in layers. Middle tier has a vanilla-coconut buttercream. All Tiers have marshmallow fondant, with fondant décor.

Cake will provide 60 party servings. A similar topsy-turvey style would provide 62 Wedding size servings.

Oh, and the cake received a Second Place Ribbon!!

Three tiers on a floating cake stand, filled with an array of royal icing flowers! Includes a diagonal half-basketweave. Also has sweet hearts in smooth space.

Bottom tier is a rice crispy "cake" with buttercream and raspberry filling. Middle and top tiers are white cake with buttercream and raspberry filling.

Flowers include hydrangeas, roses, primroses, apple blossoms, violets, and drop flowers.
A small alien was included (hidden) especially for the groom.

Cake serves 116 wedding servings.

McKenna's WILD Birthday

This is an 11" x 15" white cake with buttercream filling.
Iced in green buttercream the embellishments are palm trees with royal icing leaves and pretzel rod tree trunks. Then the Wild animals, elephants, lions, tigers, and zebras, are candy melts. These are formed and then hand decorated--they are E-D-I-B-L-E!!!

This cake will serve 50-55 party servings--as well as a few candy treats!!

Sand Castle at the Beach Party

Eliza's 5th Birthday Sand Castle Cake for her beach party.

The bottom layer is a 12" square, the top layer is a 6" square. They are iced in an ivory/sand/tan colored buttercream. They have applied "sand" (made from graham cracker crumbs and light brown sugar). The towers are fondant covered, with the applied "sand." The towers are from Wilton's Romantic Castle Cake Set. There are white chocolate* pieces like shells, crabs and a cute pair of sunglasses.** The cake is chocolate with raspberry filling.

This cake will provide 60 party servings.

Missionary Homecoming

The following cake was done for an Elder Missionary Homecoming. This young man was serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was returning home after two years. He served in the Iowa, DesMoines Mission.

The top tier is two "shoes" looking worn and such with a missionary tag and tie draped across them. They are iced in chocolate buttercream and covered in black marshmallow fondant, details including laces are made from fondant as well. The missionary tag is made from black fondant, with white buttercream icing. The tie is made from blue and maroon fondant.

The second tier is "scriptures;" a triple combination (Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants [D&C], and Pearl of Great Price) and a Holy Bible. They are separate cakes. They are iced in buttercream and covered in marshmallow fondant. The "pages" are brushed or "gilded" with yellow/gold sparkle dust.

The bottom tier is a 14-inch round iced smooth in buttercream and filled with raspberry filling.

This cake would provide approximately 120 party size servings.

Off to Iraq

This cake was for a young Marine Reservist who is going to Iraq. It was from his coworkers on his last day. The cake was white with buttercream, fashioned to look like a US Troop stationed in Iraq. The cookies have an almond vanilla glaze to appear as yellow ribbons--supporting the troops and hoping they all come home safely!

"Swamped " at 50

The recipient of this cake does heating and air for a living. So having it say "Feeling 'Swamped' at 50, Jon?" was great for him. The cake is white with buttercream and raspberry filling. Iced in buttercream with a sugar cookie/fondant "swamp cooler" and a sugar cookie chair and fondant figure. Everyone thought the cake was great, especially the birthday "boy".

The cake size is 11" x 15" and serves just over 40 (2" x 2" serving). Bigger size servings would serve fewer.

Courtney Daisy

This three tiered floating cake was for a couple sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Their cake topper was a glass figurine of the Salt Lake Temple. Each layer is covered with buttercream icing, fondant daisies, and stringwork.

The top layer has lavender sides. It is traditional white cake with raspberry filling.
The middle layer has yellow sides. It is also traditional white cake with raspberry filling.

The bottom layer has sky blue sides. It is a rice krispy cake with butter cream and raspberry filling.

This cake would provide 104 wedding servings or 92 party servings.

Smith Wedding--Joe and Linda

This cake has buttercream basketweave with royal icing flowers. The trio of colors for the wedding is green, peach and yellow.

It was an early June wedding and a pretty flower garden fit so well. The flowers include daisies, apple blossoms, wildfloers, and rosebuds.

The topper is an acrylic frame with scrapbook paper in the coordinating colors with a silver wedding themed rub-on with the bride and grooms names.

This cake would provide 24 wedding servings and 22 party servings.

Cowley-Bennett Wedding

This was a small wedding cake for a couple whose main service for guests was a chocolate fountain. So they did not wish to have a large cake.

The squares are offset and covered with ivory buttercream. The ribbon is chocolate fondant, with a chocolate fondant bow.

Topper was to be provided by the bride, however, an arrangement of flowers was required to cover the top.

This cake would provide 72 wedding servings and 60 party servings.

This was a sculpted cake done for B-Jo's husband James for his 30th birthday (a big milestone for a CF patient).

This cake served 50+.

This cake Was actually mostly "dummy" cake. In other words the layers are made from styrofoam, as opposed to cake. The bottom three layers were made with styrofoam with the top layer being made of cake. We actually made two top layers because they were having two receptions in two different locations. They needed cake they could cut into for each reception. The bride chose the colors and explained what she wanted. We ran with it from there and she was well pleased!

The bottom layer is a 12-inch square covered in purple fondant with hot pink flower cut outs in two sizes. The next layer is a 10-inch square covered with a light yellow fondant, with darker yellow stripes. The second to the top layer is an 8-inch square covered with light pink fondant with dark purple circle cutouts in various sizes. The top layer is a 6-inch square, covered in orange fondant with dark orange Monogram letters, D, P, and R on the front and back; and P on the sides. The monograms are done in color flow. Bride provided cake topper of silk flowers.

If done in cake this would provide 154 wedding servings and 110 party servings.

Gally-Aalders Wedding

This is a wedding cake in three tiers, bottom is 14-inch square, second tier is 10-inch round, top tier is 6-inch round. It is decorated with dark green swirl flowers arranged to appear as ivy and red roses of varying sizes. They forgot to bring the top, so we did a make-shift top as best we could while we were there.

Guests of the wedding who had the cake were well pleased with the cake in both appearance and in flavor. The mother of the bride was a student of B-Jo's but due to an injury was unable to make her daughter's cake. B-Jo did not want the girl to have just some ol' store bought cake, so she offered to make the cake at the same price as the store had quoted. The customer was very pleased with the outcome.

This cake provided 136 wedding servings. If this were used for a party cake it would provide 103 party servings. The cakes were white cakes with buttercream icing and raspberry filling.

Hi Everyone, B-Jo and I are going to try to start a new venture. We have pondered this for awhile now and decided to use this blog to test the waters a bit and use information from it to possibly build on. We dabble in making cakes as many of our friends and family already know and have taught cake decorating classes in the past. We would love to be able to provide other desserts and pasteries, theme cakes with full party planning and specialty candies and chocolates on an individual order basis and actually make some profit. (It is hard to profit from something you really love to do, it is much more fun to share, but it would be nice. Big Grin) We hope you will provide input about what kinds of the things mentioned you would love to have or do, but just don't have the time, energy, talent or clue where to start.
